Cryptopian States in Berlin
Residence of the Ambassador of Iceland to German, Trabenerstra
May 26th, 2018 from 15:00 to 23:00
Cryptopian States presents over 30 artists from Iceland, Greenland, the Faroe Islands and beyond. This unique event takes place at the Residence of the Ambassador of Iceland to Germany, Trabenerstrasse 68, 14193 Berlin.
On occasion of the centenary of Icelandic sovereignty from the Danish Realm, the Cycle Music and Art Festival in collaboration with the Icelandic Embassy in Berlin invites to a day of contemporary art, music and performances.
This event is both a celebration and a statement. A celebration of solidarity within the West-Nordic nations who share the similar colonial past. And a statement that the time has come where the complicated relationship to Denmark needs to be addressed, with sincerity but also with humour.
The stereotypical clichés of Icelanders and the Icelandic landscape will be addressed and put into context of crypto-colonial neurosis, decolonization and the post-traumatic stress of becoming a state. It is a narrative of that connects Iceland to Greenland and The Faroe Islands who still today remain part of the Danish Realm.
