Horfið, a performance by Elísabet Birta Sveinsdóttir with music in collaboration with Ísabella Katarína Márusdóttir, will be featured at the symposium, Practicing Communities: Transformative Societal Strategies of Artistic Research, at Zirgu Pasts, Latvian Academy of Culture, on Friday 02.03.2018.
Elísabet Birta performed a version of the project at A queer ballroom for the hot bodies of the future at Everybody’s Spectacular at Iðnó in October and as an independent event at Mengi in December 2017.
“I desire to be like a bird, wild, intuitive and free. I desire to be like a fish, wild and naked in the sea. I desire to be like a dog, wild, intuitive and empathetic as a political declaration.”
The piece is somewhere between visual art, dance and a concert. The undertone of the performance is built on overdriven existential crisis, the person is an abstraction of the faults of the contemporary human kind, critical and guilty at the same time, lives and participates in a world she has created around herself – that subordinates her.
