Hreinn Friðfinnsson | Skulptur Projekte Münster
10 June – 1 October 2017
In the summer of 1974, a small house was built in an unpopulated area of Iceland, and in a place from which no other man-made objects can be seen. The existence of the house, built inside-out, means that the “outside” has shrunk to the size of a closed space formed by the walls and the roof of the house. According to Fridfinnsson, the house harbours the whole world except itself. The House Project continued in 2008 and 2011, each iteration of the house a mirror image its predecessor. Skulptur Projekte Münster will see the manifestation of the Fourth House.
Hreinn Fridfinnsson was born in rural Iceland in 1943 and has lived in Amsterdam for the last 40 years. He represented Iceland at the 45th Venice Biennale in 1993 and in 2000 he received the Ars Fennica Prize. Fridfinnsson has exhibited widely internationally, with solo shows including the Serpentine Gallery in 2007. Fridfinnsson participated in the group exhibition, The Imminence of Poetics, 30th São Paulo Biennial, Sao Paulo, Brazil.
