Tumi Magnússon – Recent Numbers
Opening: Saturday 27 April 2013, 12 noon-4 pm
Recent Numbers – paintings and a video
The paintings consist of lines that visualize the movement of the finger on a telephone keyboard when numbers are dialled. The movement is drawing a form as a kind of choreography. In his Recent Numbers Tumi uses found materials such as photographs or pieces of wood to paint on. The history of these found materials is appearing in its marks of usage. Tumi started this recent series in 2012 based on the earlier series Phone Number Drawings, made from 2002 onwards. These drawings range from pencil or computer drawings on paper to wall drawings. They can mutate to fit the space of the installation.
The video Telephonitis consists of 6 images, each showing a person talking on the telephone, a conversation from its beginning to its end. The talks naturally have a different duration, but their speed is adjusted until they have exactly the same length. That means that some have fast movement and sound and others are stretched and in slow motion.
