Application Process

The program is open to all those working in the visual arts who fulfill the following criteria:

Artists must have Icelandic citizenship or must have been residents in Iceland for at least five years.

Artists must have exhibited professionally before.

Artists must have a confirmed offer for the project from an art institution, art space, gallery or publisher.

Applications may be submitted by the artists themselves, or, on their behalf, by professional curators, organisers or art administrators who wish to exhibit the artists’ work.

The project has to take place in the same year as the application year.

 

Applications with missing one or more of the below listed information will not be considered.

Budget

Documentation of artwork: Website, jpgs, pdf (not more than 5 total)

 

The application is to be turned in directly in the website. No documents will be acceptet through e-mail or regular mail.

Criteria

Selection is made on the basis of the applicant’s proposal, portfolio and CV. The criteria are as follows:

The presumed quality and the impact of the project on the international art scene.

The presumed quality of the exhibition and the exhibition space/residency

The application form:

description and aim of the project

convincing argument for the importance of the project

completeness of the material

realistic costs projection

 

Successful applicants will be expected to ensure that the Icelandic Art Center is appropriately credited in the exhibition catalogue, invitation cards and  additional publicity material.

Successful applicants will be introduced on the Centers’ website. Therefore, the awarded artists are asked to provide the Center with a short text (max 200 words) about themselves, images and publicity material at least two weeks before the project starts.

 

If, for any reason, the travel, exhibition or publication does not take place as stated in the application, or is delayed for any reason, the Center must be notified as soon as possible.
