Icelandic Art Prize will be awarded for the first time in February next year. An open call for nominations has been launched on Icelandic Visual Arts Fund’s homepage, www.myndlistarsjodur.is.
Icelandic Visual Arts Council is the founder of the prize, who’s aim is to honour and promote outstanding Icelandic contemporary art and encourage new artistic forms and creation.
The prize will be awarded in two categories: Artist of the Year and Emerging Artist of the Year.
The main prize, 1 million Icelandic krona, will be awarded to an Icelandic artist or an artist residing in Iceland, who has exhibited outstanding work in Iceland in the past year 2017. The prize for the emerging artist of the year, five hundred thousand Icelandic krona, will be awarded to a young artist who has earned his or hers Bachelors Degree in the past 5 years and has exhibited publicly within that time.
