The Board of the Sequences Real Time Art Festival has appointed Markús Þór Andrésson Artistic Director of the Sequences Real Time Art Festival 2013.
The Sequences Art Festival was established in 2006 and will be held for the sixth time in spring 2013 and biannually onward.
The festival celebrates and exhibits cutting-edge visual art. It aims at creating an international platform, focusing on the broad spectrum of time-based arts.
Markús Þór Andrésson (b. 1975 in Reykjavík) holds a degree in curatorial studies from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College, in the US. He has curated many exhibitions in Iceland and internationally, written articles about arts and made documentaries and television programs about artists. Current and recent projects include Emotional Blackmail in Canada (2011-12), Momentum – Nordic Biennial for Contemporary Art in Norway (2011), Without Destination, a group exhibition at the Reykjavik Art Museum (2011); Exkurs in Germany (2010). Markús Þór also took part in curating The End, exhibition with Ragnar Kjartansson at the Icelandic pavilion at the Venice Biennial 2009.
The Sequences Art Festival is founded and run by The Icelandic Art Center, The Living Art Museum, Kling & Bang gallerí and Dwarf gallery, but most galleries, museums and cultural institutions in the Reykjavík area have been involved.
The Sequences Art Festival main board consists of representatives of each founder plus one member from the art sector designated by the board. The Board includes: Rebekka Silvía Ragnarsdóttir, on behalf of the Icelandic Art Center, chair, Ingunn Fjóla Ingþórsdóttir on behalf of the Living Art Museum, Selma Hreggviðsdóttir on behalf of Kling & Bang gallerí, Kolbrún Ýr Einarsdóttir on behalf of Dwarf gallery and Katrín I. Hjördísardóttir Jónsdóttir, designated member.
