Gjörningahátíð / Performance Festival
10.10. – 13.10. 2019
A! is an annual four-day international performance festival that takes place in Akureyri, a community of 20.000 people in North Iceland. The festival is a collaboration between Akureyri Art Museum, Akureyri Culture Society (MAk), Akureyri Theater, Lókal Performing Arts Reykjavík, Reykjavík Dance Festival, Icelandic Art Centre and the video-art festival Heim.
The festival presents a variety of performances and theatre-based projects by up-and-coming artists, mid-career artists as well as established professionals. Participants of past A! editions include: Magnús Pálsson, Paola Daniele, Rúrí, Theatre Replacement, Ka Yee Li, Anna Richardsdóttir, Icelandic Love Corporation and Kviss búmm bang. Close to 2000 people attend the festival every year, turning the town into a melting pot of exciting performances.
This year, A! announces for the first time an open call for performers, actors, dancers, visual artists and others interested in contributing to the festival’s 5th edition in October. We aim at selecting 4-5 ideas from the Open Call for further development and award the selected participants with a fee of 50.000 – 100.000 ISK. Akureyri Art Museum provides accommodation and pays travel costs in Iceland, participants are however encouraged to apply for grants to cover all international travels.
If you want to send in an idea for a performance at A!, please put it into writing (max. 1 page A4) and send it – along with a small selection of visual references (photos/video-link) – to the following address: firstname.lastname@example.org
Deadline for all submissions: April 30th, 2019.
