Ásta Ólafsdóttir (b. 1948) works in various media and uses different techniques to realise her artwork. She started off in the spirit of poetic conceptual arts, working mainly with photographs and texts. Then came a period of making videos and sound works starting in 1981. Ásta both paints and draws but the sculptures she makes mark waypoints on her career. They are either free standing mixed media objects or wall-supported. Wood, wool and clay are amongst materials that she has used in her three-dimensional works. Through uncomplicated structures her aim is to reach the essence of concepts like f. ex. rituals, coherence, circulations and interaction between different cultures and times.
