Eirún Sigurðardóttir

Eirún Sigurðardóttir is an artist based in Reykjavík. Her solo works are in some sense like  Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, incisive but at the same time multilayered. She works with a variety of concepts and methods, performance, drawings, site-specific installations, video and sculpture.

Her works are sometimes full of  sensuality and flow but also strength and agenda. Talking about her methods of drawings and water-paintings, she stated: “Some elements I control, like the pencil but the behavior of others such as between pigment and water, is harder to tame. In that case I´m faced with forces that sometimes hide and only reveal themselves when all is dry. It´s like a battle between primal powers, that are set loose through a flow of thoughts and pigments. The concept and the method need to join hands.”

Eirún graduated from the Icelandic College of Arts and Craft  (now Iceland Academy of the Arts) in 1996 and studied at the Arts Academy in Berlin (now Berlin University of the Arts) 1996-1998.

She is one of three founders and members of the visual art performance collective The Icelandic Love Corporation (1996-),
