Ingibjörg Guðmundsdóttir (f. 1980) graduated 2012 with a BFA in Ceramic Art from Bergen Academy of Art and Design in Norway.
The main sources for Ingibjörg´s art are thematic thoughts, feelings and sensual perceptions of her surroundings. She is a collector; picks up things and captures ideas that attract her attention. Ingibjörg’s recent works are strongly influenced by Icelandic nature and especially the geological phenomena of stones.
“I think of stones like ceramics, in the beginning a blistering earthly material. Depending on the cooling process it will differ what kind of outcome you will get. Like the forming of the columnar basalt, the stone or the rock; the material, the heat, the time and sometimes other unexpected influences like water and wind, even a catastrophic flood.”
