Anna Maggý: The Perfect Body
„In this exhibition, Anna Maggý plays with the distortion of the shapes of the human body. The artist wants to explore the boundaries between what is socially accepted beauty and what is unapproved, to examine the power inherent in formlessness. Throughout the years, people and society have sought to create the perfect human body. We are stuck in the body, the shape, whether we like it or not. We are meant to see distortion, imperfection, something that can be improved or changed, replaced, shifted, transformed. This created perfection is however, as ever-changing as the moon from day to day. The boundaries are blurred and are constantly changing.“
Anna Maggý has used photography in the process of her work, but also various other media such as video and installation. She studied at Ljósmyndaskólinn and has worked independently as a photographer and director since, her photographs have been published in magazines around the world. This is Anna Maggý’s second solo exhibition, but she last exhibited the NO FRAME series in 2018.
