The Hafnarborg Collection contains many works that depict the town itself, the oldest being painted early last century. The exhibition is a selection of works from The Collection that show Hafnarfjörður, each in their own way. Here one can see the town through the eyes of the artists – some of whom are amongst the masters of Icelandic art history – having worked during different times and in different mediums such as oil, watercolour and print. Few towns in Iceland are as picturesque as Hafnarfjörður and the nature surrounding it also offers spectacular points of view. Many of the works now on view are from Hafnarborg’s Founding Collection that came from husband and wife Sverrir Magnússon and Ingibjörg Sigurjónsdóttir who ran a pharmacy in the museum building for decades. In recent years some of these works have decorated the meeting hall of Hafnarfjörður’s Town Council.

Among the artists, whose works are exhibited, are Nína Tryggvadóttir, Hörður Ágústsson, Jóhannes Kjarval, Jón Gunnarsson, Greta Björnsson and Jón Engilberts
