Svanhildur Gréta Kristjánsdóttir: Traces
In Traces, Svanhildur Gréta investigates her own volume, the space that contains all of her being. Wherever we tread, we leave traces that persist longer than ourselves. Research has shown that we carry the history and trauma of past generations imprinted in our genetic material. Our bodies carry this lineage and traces of it appear in the form of our actions and thoughts.
The work exhibits photographs, an installation, and the artist’s journey in search of what she consists of. Inspired by feminist and Icelandic performance art from the 70’s, Svanhildur Gréta takes up space by placing herself in the room in the form of three water containers. Creating an interplay between the material and the spiritual.
