Sunlight destroys everything.
Time changes the understanding of words and pictures.
What at one moment, can represent pride, will with time, turn into shame and then perhaps pride again.
Sunlight creates everything.
Helgi Hjaltalín says the following about his process of creating works:
I have for many years used my misreading of imagery and language as an opening and a content for works, because the misunderstanding or my idea of what I saw or read is often much more interesting than what it happened to be.
Helgi Hjaltalín Eyjólfsson (b. 1968) graduated from the art department of Breiðholt comprehensive high school in Reykjavík, Iceland and then studied at the Icelandic College of Art and Crafts in Reykjavík 1988-91, Kunstakademie Dusseldorf in Germany 1991-92, AKI in the Netherlands 1992-94 and San Francisco Art Institute in the US 1994-95. He has been active in exhibiting both at home and abroad. Helgi ran the gallery 20 square meters for a while and has tended to various jobs related to visual arts as well as teaching.
