‘Rhythms’ features new work by Kati Gausmann (Berlin) and Miranda Blennerhassett (Dublin).
Their practices are united by an interest in time, repetition and rhythm. Whether it is working with the vast timescale of geology, or the more intimate timescale of hours spent in the act of creating traditional decorative craftwork, both artists use repetitive, accumulative physical gestures that mark the passing of time. In this respect, the practices of the artists are also characterised by movement: as a theme and as an essential moment of execution.
The exhibition consists of works on paper which relate to traditional Icelandic embroidery patterns, as well as to stony traces shaped by the geological processes of Iceland. Both artists are currently undertaking residencies at SíM.
