I was out of work. I was 25 years old – and I had done all sorts of jobs – a sailor, an accountant, farmwork, and I had driven for an ale-company in Reykjavík. – It was bad ale.

This is how Svavar Guðnason describes himself in the year 1935. He is newly arrived on the scene in Copenhagen determined to become a renowned artist.

In this exhibition we get to know this young man as he starts exploring the world of the European Avant-Garde through paintings and drawings.
