Unnur Andrea Einarsdóttir: Ontolica
19 November, 2021–28 November, 2021

Welcome to the opening of Unnur Andrea Einarsdóttir´s solo exhibition ONTOLICA in MIDPUNKT gallery Hamraborg, next Friday 19th of November at 5pm. The artist will perform at 5:20 pm & 6:20pm.
Ontolica is a multi- disciplinary performance consisting of sound, music, installation and visuals which is meant to articulate the ontological divide between physical reality and the virtual realm. The title of the exhibition references a concept within digital philosophy. It addresses the sensory overload we can be subject to through the use of social media and similar platforms, presenting us with thousands of unrelated images and disparate narratives, often contributing to a distorted and fragmented experience of reality. In a hyper digitalised society, how important is physical contact with others and what are the consequences of eliminating it entirely from our interactions?
Ontolica was first shown in 2021 in Gallery Blunk in Norway but the work was created in 2020 before the first wave of Covid in Europe.
Unnur Andrea has a dual carrier as an artist and musician. She just arrived from Greece where she performed along side FRZNTE, on the opening of the exhibition project H2H in Athens – which is a Greek-Iceandic colaboration between Kling&bang and A-Dash gallery. Unnur Andrea lives and works in Norway and Iceland. She finished BA in Fine Arts from Iceland University of the Arts in 2005 and completed her M.A. degree from the Trondheim Academy of Arts in 2019. She has exhibited her work Trondheim Kunstmuseum and Galleri Atelier Nord. Her work was choicen for the Meta. Morf biannual in Trondheim international biennale for art and technology, as well as ARS Electronica Austria.
Her work explores our relationship with technology and the utopian and dystopian manifestations of our digital present. It investigates the divide between our virtual lives and physical bodies, and how global networks influence our identities, societies and collective perception of reality. Unnur Andrea works mainly with video, performance and installation, often seeking to create an immersive and encompassing experience for the viewer. As a singer and music producer, the sonic elements remain an important and central factor in most of her work.
