New Visual Arts Council appointed

The Minister of Culture and Business Affairs has appointed a new Visual Art Council for a three-year term, 2022-2025. The first meeting with all five council members took place in August.

The primary task of the Visual Arts Council is to allocate grants from the Visual Arts Fund, the last deadline was August 22. Furthermore, the council advises the Minister of Culture on visual arts, promote Icelandic visual art and international collaborations.

The Visual Arts Council members are:

  • Ásdís Mercedes Spanó chairman, appointed by the Minister of Culture       
  • Anna Jóhannsdóttir vice-chairman, nominated by The National Art Gallery
  • Margrét Elísabet Ólafsdóttir, nominated by The Association of Art History and Theory Iceland
  • Hlynur Helgason, nominated by The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists
  • Katrín Elvarsdóttir, nominated by The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists

Alternate council members are:

  • Aðalsteinn Þórsson, appointed the Minister of Culture
  • Vigdís Rún Jónsdóttir, nominated by The National Art Gallery
  • Birkir Karlsson, nominated by The Association of Art History and Theory Iceland
  • Bjarki Bragason, nominated by The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists
  • Eygló Harðardóttir, nominated by The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists
