Seeking an Editorial Board member for Art in Iceland

Art in Iceland is looking to welcome a new member to the Editorial Board for the fifth issue of the magazine, to be published in March 2025. As part of the Editorial Board this individual will contribute their knowledge and experience to co-leading the editorial program and production of the magazine with current board members. This is a freelance, compensated position with the opportunity to influence the ongoing development of the magazine. This includes engaging energetically, creatively and practically with significant ideas in contemporary art in Iceland, internationally, and at the intersection of these contexts.

Responsibilities and tasks

- Organising, reviewing and editing content, as well as evaluating submissions.

- Developing ideas and assigning them in conversation with other members of the editorial board.

- Communication and collaboration with writers and other contributors to the magazine.

- Delivering feedback and supporting writers across multiple drafts.

- Overseeing proofreading and translation of texts in collaboration with other members of the editorial board.

- Ensuring text meets content and style guidelines.

- Coordinating deadlines to ensure on-time publication.

- Coordinating with the stakeholders of the magazine (The Board of Art in Iceland).

- Providing strategic input into the development of the magazine.

Skills and experience

- Experience with content development and direction, editing and publishing.

- Knowledge of contemporary art and familiarity with the Icelandic art scene.

- Attention to detail, management and organisational skills.

- Self-motivation, flexibility and willingness to work in a team.

- Ability to meet deadlines.

- Proficiency in Icelandic and English.

- Bachelor's degree relevant to the position.

About Art in Iceland

Art in Iceland is published once a year, in March, being a collaborative project by the Board of Art in Iceland: The Visual Arts Council, Icelandic Art Center, The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists, Iceland University of the Arts and The Association of Art History and Theory in Iceland with an aim to present ideas, advance critical reflection, education and document contemporary art and artist culture in Iceland. The magazine is published, in print, in Icelandic and English.
