Since its establishment, there have been two main awards: The Art Prize, with a prize of 1 million ISK, and the Motivational Award, with a prize of 500 thousand ISK.
The Icelandic Art Prize jury is appointed by The Visual Arts Council, Iceland University of the Arts, the Association of Art History and Theory in Iceland, art museum directors, and The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists.
