A Seed Grown from Stone
Ragna Róbertsdóttir, Vikram Pradhan, Curro Rodriguez
On the 200th anniversary of the building at Hafnarstræti 16, an exhibition will be held with artists who, at first glance, work with different subjects, but upon closer inspection, the conversations that their works hold between each other become clear. The exhibition will take over SÍM Gallery in Hafnarstræti, as well as activating the garden and the outside of the building with new outdoor artwork by Ragna Róbertsdóttir, Vikram Pradhan and a performance together with new works by Curro Rodriguez.
Curated by Þórhildur Tinna Sigurðardóttir who said about the show:
"The starting point was the building itself but also the progression of time, as the building has stood for two centuries, which led me to focus on artists who work with raw material which led me to artists who have worked from stones which ultimately led me to think of how material and the spiritual collide and the result is an art exhibition with Curro, Ragna and Vikram who all live and work in Reykjavík. The exhibition therefore explores the relationship between the worldly and the spiritual. How materials that stand the test of time possess powers as silent witnesses and form conceptual bridges between nature and humans. The performance text will go deeper into those hymns, but it has been exciting to observe the conversation between them while creating new works for the occasion, and I believe that the presentation will pleasantly surprise the visitors, even if I do say so myself! "
The exhibition is done in collaboration with the Reykjavík City Museum and the City of Reykjavík.
