Beauty in the mundane all around us. Like movie stills from lives once lived. There is something inherently feminine in the snapshots taken in moments surrounded by family and loved ones, in a time of leisure and content. The precious moments that make a life. The quiet, dull comfort of the norm. Travels, a quiet afternoon at home, sunbathing with a friend, a birthday. From living rooms to the vast landscape of America, we travel back in time with ordinary people doing ordinary things in ordinary places, one beautiful moment at a time.    These photographs were gathered from antique and thrift shops in Brooklyn between 2013-2022. Sara Gunnarsdóttir (1982) is an Academy Award nominated director and artist who has created animation, music videos and original artwork for film and television, including Marielle Heller’s celebrated debut feature “The Diary of a Teenage Girl,” and HBO’s Emmy-nominated “The Case Against Adnan Sayed.” Sara most recently directed the award winning, animated comedy “My Year of Dicks”. Sara was born and raised in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland. She received her BFA from the Icelandic Academy of the Arts, while creating and performing with the electro punk band Donna Mess. She received her MFA in Experimental Animation from California Institute of the Arts, and her thesis animated documentary short, “The Pirate of Love,” was nominated for “Best Alternative” in The Academy’s Student Awards. After her studies in California, Sara moved to Brooklyn, New York, where she lived and worked for nine years before returning home to Hafnarfjörður in 2022 with her husband, Ethan Clarke and daughter Gréta Guðrún.   Exhibition opening is May 23rd from 18:00-20:00 and everyone is welcome!
