Aðalheiður Skarphéðinsdóttir
Ideas that surface in the stillness of night transform into new artworks in color or black and white.
Aðalheiður studied at The Icelandic College of Art and Crafts from 1967 to 1970, and at Konstfack in Stockholm from 1977 to 1980. She graduated as a Textile Designer. From 1979 to 1980, she studied graphics and coloring at the Konstnärernas kollektiva verkstad in Stockholm. She taught at The Icelandic College of Art and Crafts Textile Department from 1982 to 1987. During the same period, she also taught at Reykjavík School of Arts. She was an art teacher at Hvaleyrarskóli in Hafnarfjörður from 1990 to 2017.
She ran her own art school for children, "Litla Myndlistaskólann fyrir börn," from 1999 to 2005.
Aðalheiður is a member of the Association of Icelandic Visual Artists (SÍM) and has long been a member of The Icelandic Printmakers Association (Íslensk Grafík). She has been involved in running several galleries with other artists: - Gallery Langbrók from 1983 to 1985 - Arthouse (Listhús) 39 in Hafnarfjörður 1994–2004 - Meistari Jakob Gallery Reykjavík 1994–2004 Today, Aðalheiður runs her own workshop and studio called Múkki, established in 2005. It is located in her hometown of Hafnarfjörður, situated in the beautiful surroundings of Hafnarfjörður Marina. The address is Fornubúðir 8. Aðalheiður has held around 30 solo exhibitions in Iceland, Finland, and Sweden. She has taken part in many joint exhibitions, both international and Icelandic. She has participated in various Design and Graphic Exhibitions in Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Faroe Islands, Finland, Estonia, Germany, Croatia, China, Italy, and France. Through the years,
Aðalheiður has worked in various workshops across Scandinavia to broaden her artistic horizon and enhance her skills and technique. In her graphics, she uses mixed techniques, and in her watercolor works, you can find countless nuances of color and patterns inspired by nature. She also works with clip-art in acrylic and paper, creating fantasy-like artwork both small and large. In recent years, she has also created handicrafts, including graphics cans in paper and Icelandic Pinewood, as well as small birds made of clay and driftwood. Aðalheiður maintains a strong passion for cloth printing, creating new patterns inspired by the Icelandic nature she loves dearly. She has printed her artwork on pillows and various other textiles, creating unique handicrafts. One of Aðalheiður's biggest inspirations in visual arts has been working with children, which has been very motivating for her creative process..
Exhibition opening is December 5th from 18:00-20:00 and all are welcome!
