Art in Iceland

Art in Iceland is an annual magazine focusing on Icelandic contemporary art.

Art in Iceland is a magazine about visual art in Iceland. The aim is to create and sustain a center for artistic discourse and to be a platform for fruitful and critical debate about the art and the scene in Iceland. The magazine is a collaborative project between The Association of Icelandic Artists (SÍM), The Icelandic Art Center, the fine art department of the Iceland University of the Arts, The Association of Art History and Theory in Iceland, and The Icelandic Visual Arts Council. The first issue of Art in Iceland came out in March 2021.

Selected articles

The article "Checking Boxes" by Luka Bury was published in the third issue of Art in Iceland in 2023. It reviews the opportunities within the Icelandic art scene from the perspective of a non-Icelandic artist.

About the magazine

The editorial board consist of  Becky Forsythe, Hólmar Hólm and Eva Lín Vilhjálmsdóttir.

The magazines board memebers are Anna Eyjólfsdóttir (o.b.o. The Association of Icelandic Artists), Auður Jörundsdóttir (o.b.o. Icelandic Art Center), Ásdís Spanó (o.b.o. The Visual Arts Council), Bjarki Bragason (f.h. Iceland University of the Arts) and Margrét Áskelsdóttir (f.h. The Association of Art History & Theory in Iceland).
