Hamraborg Festival 2025 - open call

Hamraborg is calling! 

Calling all visual artists, dancers, musicians, digital artists, designers, performance makers, storytellers, urbanists, thinkers, workshop hosts and creators of all kinds. 

Would you like to exhibit your work in an unconventional space? Host an event? Organise a workshop? Engage with the local community?  Take part in this year's opening parade? Explore and reveal Hamraborg’s secrets? 

As the festival is turning five, it is excited to celebrate this milestone by embracing the theme of growth, nurturing, and sustaining our strong roots in Hamraborg. The festival invites artists to interact with the community of the area with events and exhibitions spreading from shop fronts to culture houses to public spaces. 

Hamraborg Festival is an inclusive and interdisciplinary celebration of art in all its forms. We are particularly interested in proposals that examine themes of sustainable connections, community-building, and the tending of cultural, environmental, and social roots.

This year there will be a Hamraborg parade, featuring a marching band and performers of all kinds. Musicians and artists can apply with proposals for the parade or pieces to be performed by the band. Additionally, we especially welcome proposals of site-specific works that explore themes of Hamraborg architecture, soundscape, community, visual culture, food, flora and/or fauna. 

Artists from all communities existing within the Icelandic art scene and beyond are welcome. Artists with special connection to Kópavogur are encouraged to apply and share their creations. 

Let’s keep growing, blossoming, and flourishing—together, in every possible direction! 

Who can apply: 

The festival welcomes work from established and emerging artists. Solo and joint submissions are welcome. Artists of any age, nationali- ty, or education level will be considered.
