The vivid Icelandic art scene and international collaborations between artists are a fruitful and mutual inspiration. The one-on-one artist talks will touch upon topics of what it means to practice art, where the boundaries between working and not-working bleed, and how artworks emerge out of distinct approaches to the world around us. In this talk, the three Icelandic artists will explore personal insights into art-making practices as well as some of the support structures that have positively shaped their artistic careers. Each of them has recently held a residency at Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin and share their perspective how institutional collaborations can contribute to sustainable artistic careers. We might also learn more about rich cross-pollination happening between Icelandic and German art scenes. The talks are moderated by Cassandra Edlefsen Lasch, editor and curator based in Berlin, and culminate in a Q&A session with the artists. Enjoy inspiring insight views and discussions, and the body organ transplant mic performance by Styrmir Örn. The event is arranged by the Embassy of Iceland in Berlin in cooperation with Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin and the Icelandic Art Center in Reykjavik, with further support from Business Iceland.
