Artists' Talk at 19.00 — Some Paintings

Jóhannes Dagsson, Helga Páley Friðþjófsdóttir

Einvher málverk Nylistasafnið 2024

Some Paintings presents four painters, Boaz Yosef Friedman, Helga Páley, Jóhannes Dagsson and Sara Rossi. With some exceptions, these artists begin their work from what they have gathered, though what they have gathered is different, and what they do with the gatherings differs even more so. Their beginning points, colour, format, scale and space are considered for a sincere response to what they have found.

Helga Páley Friðþjófsdóttir (b. 1987) lives and works in Reykjavík, she graduated from the Iceland University of the Arts in 2011. After graduating, she was part of the Kunstschlager Group and took part in running a gallery at Rauðarárstígur 1 in Reykjavik and later in the Reykjavík Art Museum. In recent years, Helga has exhibited in various places in Iceland and abroad, including the Reykjanesbær Art Museum, the Safnasafnið Museum and Gallery Huuto Helsinki. Helga primarily works in painting and drawings, where she finds inspiration in the mundane and the natural.

Jóhannes Dagsson(b. 1975) is a philosopher and a visual artist who lives and works in Reykjavík. He holds a PhD in philosophy from the University of Calgary. His research takes place at the intersection of philosophy of mind, philosophy of language and aesthetics. Questions surrounding perception and meaning in the context of art define his research. Jóhannes uses his research in his teaching, publications, and his visual art. He has taken part in a number of group and solo exhibitions.
