Elements of Two is the title of Jóhanna’s exhibition, and it is inspired by her focus on playing with the forms of old rowing boats and the incomparable Icelandic mountain views and nature.She calls her sculptures "Mountain Boats," as they are elements of both.

This is Jóhanna's first solo exhibition, where she combines rough and coarse works with soft and poetic ones, bringing out the contrasts that are often found in nature.The artworks are made from high-fired stoneware, tinted with various pigments and glazes, and from porcelain, which is sometimes tinted. To achieve the texture she seeks, she also uses ash and pumice from the volcanic eruption in Vestmannaeyjar in 1973 and ash from the Eyjafjallajökull eruption in 2010.

Jóhanna graduated from the ceramics department of the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2000. Throughout her career, she has worked as a social pedagogue while also practicing visual arts alongside that profession in recent years. Over time, visual art has taken up more space in her life, with wall-mounted ceramic sculptures becoming her signature style.

Jóhanna was born and raised in Vestmannaeyjar. The strong influence of her close proximity to nature and local industries is clearly reflected in the works currently on display at Litla Gallerý, which were specially created for this exhibition.Exhibition opening will be on Thursday, September 19th, 16:00-20:00 and everyone is welcome!Other opening hours:
