Helgi Þórsson
Helgi Þórsson studied phonetics at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. He earned a BFA in Fine Arts from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 2002 and an MFA from the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam in 2004. Helgi was involved in artist-run initiatives such as Kunstschlager in Reykjavík and ABC Klubhuis in Antwerp. Helgi has exhibited both locally and internationally. His works can be found in numerous private collections, such as the Living Art Museum, The Reykjavík Art Museum, The University of Iceland Art Collection, and various other institutions.Helgi’s work is diverse and characterized by strong color choices and unconventional compositions with a comedic undertone. He combines various mediums such as painting, sculpture, and sound. Helgi tends to use humor as a tool to reflect more serious themes, playing with references to pop culture and absurdism.
