Nirvana, Say Hi
Sigrún Gyða Sveinsdóttir
Sigrún Gyða presents new and recent artworks created from a blend of textile, text, and glass. These works all focus on the boundaries between vastness and enclosure and are connected, in one way or another, to Sigrún's opera performances from the past few years. They serve as stopovers on a journey where one pauses and looks homeward. Sigrún Gyða Sveinsdóttir’s work bridges the gap between visual art and classical opera compositions, illuminating everyday activities and intertwining them with their opposites through visual imagery. In her works, Sigrún explores themes of systematic control, power dynamics, and bodily labor, often referencing popular culture and using tragicomic motifs. She has participated in numerous exhibition and opera projects as a performer, composer, and director, both independently and in collaboration with others, primarily in Reykjavík and Amsterdam, where she is currently based.
