Undercurrent is the photographers attempt to convey the complicated feelings he experiences in Icelandic nature. Stuart moved to Iceland in 2007, hoping it would be a refuge from environ- mental destruction in the wider world. He discovered quickly, however, that the same forces were at work here, though they had seemingly not progressed as far. As a new Icelander, Stuart feels conflicted about the rapid changes in the Icelandic environment that have occurred since he first visited the country in 2005.
