Water Lilies

Anna Hrund Másdóttir

gallerí skilti

The colours, light, and repeated reflections that characterise Monet's works have recently settled deeply in my mind, guiding me through my creative process. Though the scale remains elusive, the familiar shapes and hues invite viewers into the world of the artwork. Circles of silicone - sometimes green, sometimes yellow adorn the surface. Some circles are opaque, concealing the underlying layers, while others are transparent, revealing lavender and lilac pink shades beneath.

Anna Hrund Másdóttir (b. 1981) works across various media, including drawing, weaving, sculpture, and installation, with a focus on colours, shapes, and composition. She delights in working with mass-produced objects and repetition. Often, she uses materials as they are, but with subtle changes and repetition, she evokes a magical aura in her creations.

Anna Hrund studied art at the Iceland Academy of the Arts and the Mountain School of Art, completing her M.F.A. at the California Institute of the Arts in 2016. She lives and works in Reykjavík and is an active member of the artist-run gallery Kling & Bang. Anna Hrund has exhibited widely, with solo exhibitions at the Living Art Museum and Reykjavík Art Museum and has participated in group exhibitions and projects worldwide. Nominated for the Icelandic Art Prize in 2022, she has also been awarded various grants.
