Years in Between
Laimonas Dom Baranauskas
The idea that beauty is only found in youth is persistent in society. The goal of Laimonas Dom Baranauskas with the exhibition "Years in Between" is to challenge this societal notion by showing the beauty and uniqueness that comes with age. In the exhibition, five women are portrayed, aged between around fifty and eighty. In order to achieve timeless features in the human face, Laimonas took the portraits in black and white, emphasizing the timeless nature of the human face and allowing the viewers to focus on the expressions and features of the women from the past and the present. He photographed each woman once, then combined a newly taken photo with an old studio portrait of that person, creating a gap of 30-60 years between the two portraits. With this method, Laimonas examines the concept of aging and how our facial features change over time. This also shows that our face remains the same as time goes by.
