The Icelandic Art Prize 2025

Pétur Thomsen (b.1973) receives the Icelandic Art Prize as Artis of the Year 2025 for the exhibition Settlement in Hafnarborg, the Hafnarfjörður Centre of Culture and Fine Art.

Helena Margrét Jónsdóttir (b.1996) is the recipient of the Motivational Award of the Icelandic Art Prize 2025. Jónsdóttir has distinguished herself among young artists with paintings of everyday objects that she places in an unconventional context.

The Icelandic Visual Arts Council’s Honorary Award 2025 goes to Erró, also known as Guðmundur Guðmundsson.

The recipient of the Visual Arts Council’s award for Publication of the Year is Agnieszka Sosnowska for her photography book För. It is an impressive publication in which nature, society and personal history intersect. 

The recipient of the Visual Arts Council’s award for Group Exhibition of the Year is the Textile Society for 50/100/55. The exhibition’s title was meant to commemorate the Association’s 50th anniversary, showcasing 100 works by 55 exhibitors.

The recipient of the Visual Arts Council’s award for Retrospective of the Year is the exhibition Transformation | Works by Gerður Helgadóttir. The exhibition was presented to mark the 30th anniversary of the Gerðarsafn Art Museum in Kópavogur.

 
The Icelandic Art Prize 2025 was awarded on March 20 in Reykjavík. The awards provide recognition to outstanding visual artists and exhibitions.

Seven are nominated for the Icelandic Art Prize 2025. The awards are presented in two categories: Artist of the Year and the Motivational Award of the Year. The Icelandic Art Prize will be presented for the 8th time on Thursday, March 20th, at Iðnó.
